About Us

Boundless Possibilities for All

Background / Over View of RAPADO

RAPADO (Rural Aids Prevention and Development Organization) was founded as a Community based organization in 1992. Its main focus then was on interventions of integrating the fight against HIV/AIDS with mainstream development initiatives, before being registered as a National Not for profit organization / NGO in December 2004. Rapado’s main target groups are orphans and vulnerable children in Kenya and its current programs are in Suna East, Suna West, Uriri, Kuria East and Kuria West Sub Counties of Migori County and parts of Homa-bay County. Rapado has also supported Ministry of Health Malaria initiatives in Nyandarua, Laikipia, Bomet and Samburu Counties.

RAPADO’s conviction is anchored on the belief that everyone’s social, economic, and civil rights occupy a central place in making the world a better place, and thus to effectively contribute to this, it seeks to work at the grass roots level especially with the underserved, while at national and global levels it seeks to contribute and influence policy through advocacy and sharing of best practices, knowledge and capacity building. The organization is currently engaged in various programmes that cover: Health, Gender, Governance, Education, Agriculture, Peace Building and Advocacy.
RAPADO is governed by a seven-member Board of Directors who consult regularly with the management and staff on policy decisions. Constituents are often encouraged to become involved in leadership roles. We have a team of 15 professionals who work with over 150 communities to improve the lives of over 230,000 people across 11 counties in Kenya. Driven by local needs and market conditions, RAPADOs programs connect communities to life transforming skills, tools and opportunities. We focus on obstacles that impede realization of their basic human needs (health, food, clothing and shelter), access to economic opportunities, access to education and opportunities for building their skills and competencies. Promoting good governance and working in partnership with line ministries at national and county governments are central to RAPADOs approach because they build local ownership and sustainability for long-term development goals. These represents our more concise way of express our enduring vision of “Boundless Possibilities for All”.

Our Approach

People’s empowerment and building strong relationship is the starting point and end goal of RAPADO’s work. We work with community members to build partnerships that enable them to determine priorities and set goals that would empower them to achieve development that transforms their lives. RAPADO believes that full community participation, especially of youths, women and children, will ensure the long-term sustainability of projects and lead to stronger communities.
