WHO WE ARE

Organizational Background and Capability Statement

Rural AIDS Prevention and Development Organization (RAPADO) is a non-partisan, not for-profit non-governmental organization registered in Kenya under the NGO coordination act in 2004 under legal registration number OP.218/051/2004/0443/3473. RAPADO supports people living in some of Kenya’s toughest places to turn social political and economic inequalities into opportunities for progress. RAPADOs Mission is to empower Vulnerable Populations to access opportunities necessary in the realization of life aspirations. RAPADO is governed by a seven member Board of Directors [4 males and 3 Female] who consult regularly with the management and staff on policy decisions. Constituents are often encouraged to become involved in leadership roles. We have a team of 25 professional staff [10 female and 15 Male] who work with over 150 communities to improve the lives of hundreds of thousands of people across 11 counties in Kenya. Driven by local needs and market conditions. RAPADOs programs connect communities to life transforming skills, tools and opportunities. We focus on obstacles that impede realization of their basic human needs (health, food, clothing and shelter), access to economic opportunities, access to education and opportunities for building their skills and competencies. Promoting good governance and working in partnerships are central to RAPADOs approach because they build local ownership and sustainability for long-term development goals. These represents our more concise way of express our enduring vision of “Boundless Possibilities for All”.
RAPADO is a member of the Kenya Peace Network, County Budget Technical Working Group, County Health Stakeholder Forum, Health NGOs Network, Network for Adolescents and Youth of Africa, Kenya NGOs Alliance against Malaria as well as the host organization for Migori County Civil Society Forum. Under the Governance Pillar, RAPADO was able to include 15 county policies across three counties [Migori, Kisumu and Vihiga] in Kenya in 2018. This was achieved through integration of advocacy in ongoing projects. Some of these policies included the bursary policy in Kisumu County, Youth, PWD, and Gender policies in Migori and appropriation acts in all the three counties.
